LINCOLN PARK — A 26-year-old man alleged to have attacked two teenagers with a sword waived a preliminary examination Tuesday in 25th District Court, and will be arraigned Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court on felonious assault charges.
John K. Maranian faces up to four years in prison if convicted of felonious assault as alleged by police and prosecutors. Lincoln Park police were called to the 1700 block of Morris shortly after 9 p.m. May 8 by neighbors who said that Maranian stabbed a teenager with a large sword. Witnesses who gathered on the street corner said the estimated three-foot-long weapon was used by Maranian earlier that day when he threatened and chased two teenagers, one of whom suffered minor wounds when hit in the shoulder by the sword.
Maranian ran into a house, and police believed there were three others inside. Two women soon exited the house and exchanged harsh words with the crowd before police responded. Maranian’s parents soon arrived at the home and spoke with Maranian on the phone; soon after, he surrendered without incident to police. Police removed three swords from the home.
Maranian remained in custody on $100,000 cash bond.
