SOUTHGATE — Summer time, and the music is easy and plentiful at City Hall with the annual Concerts in the Park series kicking off Tuesday.
As hosted by the Southgate Cultural, Arts and Special Events Commission, the bi-weekly series combines a variety of musical entertainment with community benefits.
Sponsored by Ed Zeleniak, the first in the series on Wedneday will be Jamaican stylings courtesy of Dayo and the Diplomats, currently traveling on the Banana Boat Tour Jam 2012.
On July 24, Steelin’ Time brings the blues to town in a city-sponsored show that will honor veterans. Attendees are
asked to bring donations of toiletries for men and women serving overseas.
The Seventh Avenue Band celebrates its “Summer Birthday Bash” on Aug. 7, sponsored by the Tackett family, and Sparx closes out the summer with classic rock — from the ’50s to the ’90s — on Aug. 21. Sparx appears courtesy of the Colovos Family, and donations will be accepted to benefit the P.A.W.S. animal rescue organization.
Weather permitting, the concerts will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Homer Howard Park at the Municipal Complex, 14400 Dix-Toledo Road.
The concerts are free, and it is recommended to bring a lawn chair.
