Taylor cops collect food for those in need

July 14, 2012 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

TAYLOR — Payback time, and the Taylor Police Department wants to return the generosity of the community by helping those most in need.

Beginning tomorrow and running through July 30, the Taylor Police Department Food Drive will colect canned or boxed foods for distribution through Downriver Fish and Loaves.

In partnership with Walmart, Taylor Police Chief Dale Tamsen said the Food Drive is a way of returning the generosity given the department in recent years.

“The support and caring we received from the entire community after the loss of Cpl. Matt Edwards and Lt. Dan Kromer was just unbelievable,” Tamsen said. “Helping collect food for those who really need it is the least we can do to pay back the support that’s been shown us.”

Suggested items for donation include canned fruits and vegetables, canned meat, fish and stews, baby food, fruit juices, rice, pasta, chili, powdered milk and household paper products. Tamsen said that all donated items must be unopened.

Donations may be delivered to the Taylor Police Station, 23515 Goddard Road, or Walmart, 7555 Telegraph.
