CSCU launches backpack drive

July 22, 2012 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Co-op Services Credit Union last week launched its fourth annual Backpack Drive to run through Aug. 10.

Partnering with Volunteers of America, WDVD-FM 96.3 and WJBK Channel 2, CSCU is collecting new backpacks, folders, notebooks, pens, scissors, pencils and other supplies at donation boxes in the credit union’s eight branch offices located throughout metro Detroit, including locations in Dearborn, Melvindale and Southgate.

The donations will be distributed through Volunteers of America and its Operation Backpack initiative. Last year Volunteers of America Michigan distributed 1,200 new backpacks filled with grade appropriate supplies to low-income children in local communities.

CSCU also will participate in the annual “Stuff-A-Bus” event from Aug. 3 through 5 in Taylor. CSCU’s staff and its mascot, Rock Star, will be on hand during the event to accept school supply donations.
