DEARBORN — A festival celebrating the end of Ramadan, the ninth holy month on the Islamic calendar dedicated to fasting and good deeds, is scheduled for Thursday at the Henry Ford Centennial Library Soccer Field, 16301 Michigan Ave.

The Eid Festival, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., features carnival rides, moonwalks, video games, a basketball tournament and interactive entertainment.

According to www.eidfestival.org, the festival is a collaboration between diverse community-based organizations throughout the city and the metropolitan Detroit area.

The educational and social event plans to celebrate in the community during the annual celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a holiday concluding the Islamic month of Ramadan, where Muslims are responsible for fasting daily from dawn until dark, participating in community service and helping the less fortunate.

Eid Festival officials did not return an email request seeking comment for this story.

For more information on the festival go to www.eidfestival.org.
