Open house encourages emergency planning

October 7, 2012 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN – The Dearborn Fire Department’s annual Open House from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at Fire Station No. 2 will give the public a chance to test their fire safety knowledge and receive fire safety information.

Station No. 2 is at 19800 W. Outer Drive.

Open house guests can check out the department’s fire trucks, see a demonstration of the city’s bomb robot and take a picture of themselves in Fire Department gear.

Guests who bring a home escape plan, or draw one at the open house, will receive a special reward.

Having a smoke alarm is the first step toward having a home escape plan. For as little as $5, this device gives occupants a warning to get out of the house.

The second step to escape a house fire is to know and practice escape routes. This is an activity the whole family can be involved in. Draw each room of the house on a piece of paper and allow everyone to identify two ways out of each room.
