Mary Sclabassi (left) takes the oath of office as Taylor’s ninth chief of police, during a swearing-in ceremony Friday. Sclabassi is the city’s — and Downriver’s — first female chief, one of 15 of Michigan’s 378 department commanders, according to Mayor Jeffrey Lamarand. Sclabassi was officially sworn in by City Clerk Cindy Bowers (right) during a ceremony that featured retiring Police Chief Dale Tamsen and U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-15th District).
