DEARBORN — The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce has been selected to partner with American Express and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to promote Small Business Saturday — a nationwide campaign to spur business for local merchants the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
American Express created the concept in 2010 to help small businesses get more exposure between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year, more than 100 million people shopped at independently-owned small businesses on that day.
Using social media, the DACC will distribute $25 American Express Gift Cards to customers. The promotion began Sunday and will culminate with giveaways at several locations Saturday. Posts on Facebook and Twitter give clues to further direct traffic.
American Express offers an incentive to small business shoppers: a $25 statement credit offer for cardmembers who register their card at www.ShopSmall.com and spend $25 or more at any qualifying small business that accepts the American Express Card. Cardmembers must enroll an eligible American Express Card by Saturday.
