HEIGHTS – This year’s Dearborn Heights Montessori Center open house for prospective parents and students is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
The school, which serves children from 18 months through eighth grade, is at 466 N. John Daly.
“What many are surprised to learn is the number of programs and free workshops that we offer parents of children enrolled at each school level, from toddler through middle school,” said Laura Springer, assistant head of school for DHMC. “These range from workshops about the Montessori philosophy to
parenting programs facilitated by nationally recognized speakers and educators.”
Each month during the school year, parents are invited to participate in Parent Perks, a parent education opportunity. Parents select different topics for discussion in an informal setting.
Complimentary childcare also is available during these meeting times for parents of younger children who are not yet enrolled.
The school recently announced that it has earned a renewed five-year accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the
country’s leading organization of early childhood professionals.
“In receiving the NAEYC accreditation, we also received several commendations for establishing and fostering reciprocal family relationships, including our parent education programs,” Springer said.
Following the open house, families and prospective parents interested in receiving more details about Montessori education and the different levels available at DHMC also are welcome to attend for a parent meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Teachers will explain programs and answer questions about extended day kindergarten, lower and upper elementary, and middle school.
Children are welcome to accompany parents to the open house, and light refreshments will be served. Child care will be available during the parent meeting.
“Our teachers and staff will be readily available throughout the evening to answer questions that help prospective parents learn more about the special benefits of an authentic Montessori education,” Springer said.
