TAYLOR — Police responded quickly to a 3 a.m. call from Leo’s Coney Island, 9845 Telegraph Road, on Jan. 27. By the time officers arrived in response to a dispute between customers at two tables, Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said that about 50 people were involved in the fight.
“Numerous people were fighting inside the restaurant,” Sclabassi said.
When the situation settled, five people were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. All five pleaded not guilty Monday during arraignment before 23rd District Court Judge Geno Salomone. A preliminary examination will be held Tuesday to consider evidence against the five suspects: Gregory Allen Davis, 27 of Romulus; Joshua Javon Owens, 21 of Taylor; Joseph Lamar McQueen, 28 of Taylor, Michael Dewitt Davis, 23 from Garden City; and James Bernard Hollars, 39 of Westland.
Additional charges of assault and battery were filed against McQueen; Hollars was further charged with interfering with police and incitement to riot.
Owens was transported from Leo’s to Oakwood Heritage Hospital for injuries sustained during the fight, Sclabassi said.
Officers were assisted in restoring peace to the brawl-filled restaurant by police from Allen Park.
