ALLEN PARK – Officers are looking for a former employee of Thunderbowl Lanes, 4200 Allen, accused of stealing more than $500 from the alley Feb. 1.
About $583 was found missing from the alley’s snack bar that day and reported to police two days later.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect, a 19-year-old Melvindale man, enter the alley about 11 p.m. that day and pace the hallway. At the same time, a current employee, who police suspect may be involved, places a cash bag on the counter and places a call. At the same time, the footage shows the suspect receiving a phone call.
The snack bar employee then turns his back and the footage shows the suspect walk up the counter and grab the cash bag and leave the building. The snack bar employee on tape does not turn his back, though the suspect is just feet away from him.
Alley employees told police they could positively identify the man on the tape based on mannerisms similar to the suspect. The man on tape frequently pushes his glasses up his nose, a trait they said he shared with the former employee.
According to the report, the placement of the bag on the counter was against the lane’s policies.
No further information was available and officers continue to investigate.
