March 31, 2013 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

MELVINDALE – The city is using strength in numbers to get its residents in shape.

Tuesday the city will launch a six-week weight loss program for residents. For a $10 entry fee, residents can participate in weekly weigh-ins and group exercise schedules and can compete to win prizes for participants that lose the most weight.

Residents who wish only to participate in the exercise outings, including walks and stretches, may do so at no charge.

The first weigh-ins are scheduled for 10 a.m and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the mayor’s office on Oakwood Boulevard.

An exercise session, including a 3.2-mile or 1.6-mile walk, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Park and Ride on Allen Road and Outer Drive.
