WYANDOTTE – Two teen boys were rescued from a blaze in the 300 block of Oak April 21.
According to published reports, firefighters were called to the house about 9 a.m. that day while investigating a recently extinguished fire in the 90 block of Walnut.
Inside the house were two boys, ages 14 and 15.
The 14-year-old was hanging out of a second story window when firefighters arrived and was rescued with a fire department ladder.
The second boy and the family pets were removed from the fire and their father soon returned home to find that everyone was unharmed.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen when one of the boys was making breakfast.
The specific cause of the fire cannot be released pending investigation.
Damage to the house is estimated at $50,000 and the family was vacated from it.
The first fire, which began about 4 a.m. that day, is believed to be arson and the house had been vacant.
Fire Chief Jeff Carley did not return phone calls seeking comment by press time.
