Anderson is contender in Downriver League

One of the top contenders in the Downriver Football League again will be Southgate Anderson. The Titans have enough seniors coming back to help make their team one to reckon with among the prep gridiron battles certain to take place within their circuit.

Anderson head coach Derrick Mac is now in his fifth year at the helm, and his teams usually are competitive enough to wind up in the upper tier of the final standings year-after-year.

Anderson has started off with a pair of victories and is expected to contend for a shot at the title along with Wyandotte. The two teams are big time rivals and will play each other on the last day of the regular season.

“We started off with a couple of wins,” Mac said, “but we still have a ways to go.”

Anderson is a team that can’t be counted out of the Downriver League title chase this season. The Titans have a stubborn defense and a core of linebackers that tackles well. Three senior linebackers are Dylan Voss, Julian Trueblood and Josh Derfihy, along with junior Dejon Matthews.

Running back Brandon Osheski, is a key to the offense, and the senior has demonstrated his ability to get loose and claim plenty of real estate for the Titans.

As the season moves along, look for Southgate to keep pace and stay in the thick of things in the rough and tumble Downriver League.
