DEARBORN — The Henry Ford Community College Student Nurse Association will sponsor a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday on the East Campus, 3601 Schaefer Road.
Donors with type O negative blood, type A negative blood and type B negative blood are in high demand. Type O negative is the universal blood type, which can be given to patients with any blood type.
September also is National Preparedness Month. Hospitals need blood to respond to patient needs. The blood used in emergencies is already on the shelves before the need arises.
Additionally, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Individuals with sickle cell disease require multiple transfusions of red blood cells to prevent chronic complication of the disease. Blood donors can make a difference to cancer patients, including those with pediatric cancers.
Prospective donors may register at www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code “hfnurse.” If there is trouble registering, call 313-549-7044.
