DEARBORN — A 59-year-old Dearborn resident walking across Warren Avenue was struck and killed by a vehicle just after 8 p.m. Sept. 20.

The man was crossing Warren near Payne Street when he was struck by a silver Dodge Durango driven by a 47-year-old Dearborn resident.

The pedestrian was transported to Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Durango was not injured in the crash.

Police Sergeant Steve White said police are still investigating the incident, but that it appeared to be an accidental collision and that alcohol was not believed to be a factor.

Police Chief Ronald Haddad called the death a “terrible tragedy” and offered his sympathy to the family of the deceased.

Haddad also said that residents need to remain “vigilant while driving and to use designated crosswalks.”
