Family looks to raise money for daughter’s fight against cancer

RIVERVIEW — The family of a 23-year-old Riverview Community High School graduate will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Sunday to benefit her fight against cancer.

The fundraiser is from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Flat Rock Elk Lodge, 26917 Telegraph Road, and tickets are $10. All of the proceeds will go toward the costs not covered by the family’s health insurance.

Brittany Disney was diagnosed with Stage IV Burkitt’s Lymphoma months after she graduated from Easter Michigan University.

Her father, Ken Disney, said it has been a hard time for everyone.

“It’s been rough all the way around,” he said. “I have to take time off work to get her to treatments and appointments, but I just want her well. But, she took the news well and is a fighter, so I am positive we can move past this.”

Ken Disney said his daughter is halfway through her chemotherapy, but it is an intensive and aggressive treatment that has taken a toll on everyone. Her mother has multiple sclerosis and cannot move around, so he has become the primary caregiver for both of them.

He has set up an account through www.giveforward.com so people can search her name and donate money to the family. The family is also working with an Olga’s Restaurant in the area to set up another fundraising event.

The fundraiser on Sunday will feature raffles, auctions for autographed jerseys and tickets to local sporting events. Ken Disney said the public can contact him via email, [email protected], or by phone either at 734-216-5798 or 734-282-1617.
