Family support groups offered in January

December 1, 2013 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

TAYLOR – The holidays and the winter season are often a difficult time for families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Looking forward can be very difficult. The weather itself can bring you down.

Howe-Peterson Funeral Home invites the community to attend its free, nondenominational grief support groups for winter 2014. All groups meet at Ford Senior Activity Center, 6750 Troy. Contact Howe-Peterson Funeral Home at 313-561-1500 for registration information.

Helping Hands brings together children ages 5 to 12 who share the experience of having lost a loved one. It offers a safe environment for communicating feelings and learning coping skills through creation of artwork, storytelling and group exercises.

This group meets for seven Mondays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., beginning Jan. 13.

Teen Connection reaches out to teens ages 13 to 17 and encourages them to work through their grief in a secure atmosphere. This group meets simultaneously with the adult group, Journey Though Grief, every Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. beginning Jan. 20, for six weeks. In their meetings, adults share memories and work through the physical and emotional sides of grief.
