T-H columnist dies of cancer at 71

You’ve heard of the 4-H Club? Daniel Edward Gretzner was 5-F.

Mr. Gretzner “was a spiritual man who loved family, friends, fishing, Ford and fun,” said his son, Dan Gretzner II.

Mr. Gretzner died of cancer Saturday, Nov. 30, at the age of 71.

Mr. Gretzner was a long-time sports columnist for several publications over the past five decades, including the Wyandotte Tribune, Dearborn Press, Downriver Review and, from June 18, 2011 to Oct. 20, 2013, his “Focus on Sports” column had a home with the Times-Herald/Sunday Times Newspapers. His final columns focused on two of his passions: the outdoors and his alma mater Wyandotte Roosevelt High School.

“He was a proud 1960 Wyandotte High alum and 34-year employee of Ford Motor Co.,” his son said.

Mr. Gretzner leaves his son, Dan (Bonnie); granddaughters Jordan and Hannah; sister Susan (Chuck) Graham; and nieces and nephews Chirstine Hagen, Jim (Kelly) Hagen, Emily, Olivia, Hunter, Layla and Gunner. He was preceded indeath by his father, Edward; Mother, Maxine; and brother, Ronald.

Funeral services were held Dec. 3 at J.L. Peters Funeral Home in Lincoln Park.
