Oakwood delivers first baby of 2014

January 12, 2014 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN — Less than one hour into 2014, Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center welcomed in the first newborn of the year.

Mariejayne Adalyne Elendt was born at 12:52 a.m., weighing 8 pounds. 12 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.

Her parents, Tammy Jones and Zachary Elendt of Taylor, were expecting her on Jan. 3, but things didn’t work out according to plan.

“We had a C-section scheduled for this coming Friday,” Jones said Wednesday, “but Mariejayne had plans of her own and decided to come early.”

He added that Mariejayne is the first baby for the couple.

“I just can’t believe I’m holding her and she’s really here on the first day of the year,” Jones said. “It’s amazing.”
