Allen Park High School Juniors Sara Risch (left), Alyssa Gabbard, Samantha Granata, Alexis Lee and Isabel Barbosa-Rios proudly display their credentials after being sworn in as student commissioners to the Allen Park Street Fair/Festivities Committee during Tuesday night’s city council meeting. The students are part of the school’s Interact Club. Don Csont, an APHS Social Studies teacher, sponsors the club which has about 540 student members. The Interact Club was started by the Rotary Club International 6400 in 2006 and was confirmed to be the world’s largest interact club. Csont said it is a community service club aimed at “paying back the community.” Members plan to volunteer time in April to clean up around the city’s business district by sweeping sidewalks, washing windows and cleaning city parks. Last year, Csont said the students also repainted the exterior of the American Legion Post 409 Hall and each year “they look to do a bit more than before.”
