DEARBORN — The 2013 Member Focus Credit Union Mitten Drive was completed mid-December in an effort to distribute mittens and gloves to the needy before the cold weather of winter set in.

MFCU annually conducts the mitten drive and presents the items to the Dearborn Goodfellows, which funnels them into the community.

MFCU employees and members donate mittens, gloves, scarves and hats to be used as gifts in the Goodfellows annual Christmas drive and use the event as part of its ongoing philosophy of “people helping people.”

The Goodfellows distribute the mittens to needy families within the community.

Dearborn Goodfellows President Larry Johnson commended the community for their help in making the program a success.

“We are very fortunate that the citizens of Dearborn and surrounding communities support the Goodfellows,” Johnson said. “It is evident that the community realizes the huge benefit and impact the Goodfellows play in making Dearborn such a great place.”

The Dearborn Goodfellows is an organization whose roots date back to 1922 when it was The Good Cheer Club.

Working with the motto “No Child Without A Christmas,” the Goodfellows have become a “go-to” resource for families and children in need.

Annually, the Dearborn Goodfellows conduct a December newspaper sale and also host Smoke On The Grill in conjunction with the Dearborn Public Schools’ Parent Teacher Student Association.

In 2013, the Goodfellows assisted more than 1,000 children and families that were in need.

MFCU, with two branches in Dearborn, has been serving the community since 1935.
