Home Depot’s Tom Gibbons (left), Taylor Mayor Rick Sollars and carpenter Dave Pehrson survey the second home being prepared for a deserving family in Taylor’s Veterans Home Program. The Polk Street residence will soon welcome a veteran who qualified by this month’s application deadline. Under the program, vacant homes are rehabilitated by volunteer efforts coordinated by the city, Home Depot, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4422 along with contributors including Al’s Asphalt, Clopay Garage Doors, Courtney Painting, Custom Building, Enchanted Makeovers, Gerald Smith Electrical, Gibbons Home Improvement, Masco Cabintetry, Reflections Building, Simpson Construction, Swanson Construction, Wallside Windows and volunteers from the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. The winning veteran will be announced soon and city officials said the home will be ready for occupancy. Applications for future homes are now being taken. For information contact the Community Development Office at 734-287-6550.
