Allen Park High School counselor Patrice Mang (left) discusses the advantages of Advanced Placement classes with APHS junior Thomas Sirhan (right) and his parents Tuesday after an Advanced Placement parent meeting held at the school. Mang said each of the school’s A.P. classes accept only 28 students into the curriculum each year and there are about 30 to 50 students who apply for a spot. The classes are challenging, she said, but will develop confidence and provide a competitive edge when applying for college. She explained the classes will require more time, but “reaps a bigger reward” in the end because he will be more prepared for a college course load and will learn to become more of a critical thinker.
