Public advised to clear snow, ice from storm drain openings in streets

February 19, 2014 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN –  The public should clear snow and ice away from the opening for storm drains or catch basins in the streets near their homes in anticipation of rain and warmer temperatures predicted for Thursday.

Clearing the area around the drain openings will mean rainwater and piles of melting snow will be better able to flow into the drains, reducing street flooding concerns.

Although Dearborn Department of Public Works crews have plowed streets, it is not always possible to ensure that accumulated snow is removed from every storm drain.
