Lori Hill-Sanders (left), executive director of the Taylor Reading Corps, updates civic and school officials on the status of the all-volunteer literacy program during an open house Monday. TRC, 22655 Wick, provides adult mentors to help lower-elementary school students who struggle with literacy. Among the attendees Monday were Taylor Mayor Rick Sollars and Taylor Community Schools Supt. Diane Allen, who had served on the corps’ founding board. Hill-Saunders told attendees that nearly 200 mentors serve with the corps. Volunteers typically spend a half hour per week with two students. Anyone interested should contact the organization at 313-769-6730 or by email to [email protected].
