Allen Park
Man arrested for suspected domestic violence

Police responded to a domestic violence call in the 14900 block of Hanfor Avenue about 3 a.m. Feb. 18. A man answered the door and told police his girlfriend’s daughter called them because he and the girlfriend were arguing.

Officers spoke to the woman who said she had a few drinks at a Lincoln Park bar and stopped at a convenience store to get cigarettes. She told police she returned to the bar and saw the boyfriend walk in with his ex-girlfriend, sit down and have a few drinks.

The girlfriend said she did not approach the two while at the bar and said her boyfriend and his ex had a child in common. When she got home, the girlfriend said she confronted him about the situation and the argument got out of control. She said he hit her on the head and face about six times.

The girlfriend’s daughter said she heard the argument in the kitchen, walked in and saw the man hitting the girlfriend. Officers said they saw a red abrasion on the girlfriend’s lip, which she said was from the boyfriend hitting her.

Police said neither the girlfriend nor the daughter could confirm whether he hit her with a fist or an open hand. The girlfriend told police this was the first time he’d ever hit her, but the officer said she could not keep direct eye contact with him.

She said police officers were at the house about two weeks ago for a separate argument. Officers arrested and processed the boyfriend for domestic violence. The girlfriend refused medical treatment and said she wanted the boyfriend out of the house, but did not want to press charges.

Dearborn
Man arrested for not registering as sex offender

A 38-year-old Dearborn man was arrested near the intersection of Warren Avenue, and Greenfield at 4 p.m. Feb. 27 for failing to properly register as a sex offender.

Dearborn Police Tac Team officers, dressed in plain clothes, went to arrest the man at his residence after he failed to register correctly by the required date, which was Jan. 15.

During their investigation, the officers observed the man riding as a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on Chase. A traffic stop was initiated and the passenger identified himself to the officers and was removed from the vehicle without incident.

The man was arrested for non-compliance in registering as a sexual offender and was handcuffed, searched and secured in a patrol vehicle before being transported to the police station.

The driver of the Malibu was given a verbal warning for speeding and failing to signal and was released at the scene.

Westland man arrested for warrant
A 34-year-old Westland man was arrested for an outstanding forgery warrant during a traffic stop at Michigan Avenue and Gulley at 11:40 p.m. Feb. 27.

While on patrol in the area, an officer observed a black 1992 Buick traveling on Michigan with an ornament dangling from the rear view mirror obstructing the driver’s vision. The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who provided his driver’s license and identified himself. A check of the license showed that the man was wanted on a warrant for forgery from Ingham County Circuit Court.

The man was arrested, handcuffed and searched before being taken to the police station.

The vehicle was searched by the officer before being towed from the scene.

Officers from Ingham were notified of the arrest and agreed to pick up the man the next day.

Dearborn Heights
Vehicle broken into

A woman called police to report she had just observed a woman searching through her vehicle outside of an apartment in the 26000 block of Westphal just after 2 p.m. Feb. 27.

Police spoke to the victim, who said she was informed by her mother that someone was going through the trunk of her vehicle. The victim looked out a window and observed a 2009 Saturn Aura parked directly behind her vehicle with a man in the driver’s seat and a woman going through the contents of her trunk.

The victim exited the apartment to confront the pair but they fled as she got outside. She was able to obtain the license plate number, which she turned over to police.

A check of the woman’s vehicle revealed that a few items had been taken, including a large black purse and several pairs of blue jeans.

The victim stated that she did not recognize the woman and that no one had been given permission to enter her vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.

Wheels taken from vehicle
A woman exited her house about 9 a.m. March 2 to find that all four wheels had been taken from her vehicle in the 8100 block of Dale.

The woman told police she had parked her 2014 Jeep in her driveway overnight and that she had last observed the vehicle with the wheels intact about 11 p.m. March 1. When she left the residence in the morning she discovered the theft.

She did not hear or see anything suspicious during the night and no suspect information was available.

A neighbor told the victim that he had left his residence about 8 a.m. that morning and noticed her wheels missing.

Police checked the property and the surrounding area but did not find anything of evidentiary value.

No suspect information was available.

Lincoln Park
Couple take off with trailer

Police are looking for a man and woman who broke a lock and took off with a stolen trailer hooked to their pickup truck.

A man told police he’d parked a utility trailer in the parking lot of his apartment complex in the 600 block of Southfield. The trailer hitch was chained to a pole. About 3:30 a.m. Monday a purple or blue Ford pickup truck pulled into the lot. A man —white or Hispanic, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt — exited the vehicle and pried the lock off of the trailer hitch, and cut the chain. With the assistance of a woman — white, wore a hooded coat — the trailer was hitched to the truck and driven away.

The trailer was valued at $1,000, and the man said little of value was inside. Police are investigating.

TVs taken from apartment
Police responded at 2:35 p.m Monday to a report from the 1400 block of Goddard that an apartment had been broken into and two TVs stolen.

According to police reports, the theft was discovered by the complex manager, who noted an open window that was likely the point of entry. The manager had been told by the renter to secure the apartment.

Investigators spoke with the renter, who said she’d been out of town on vacation since early February. Among the confirmed missing items were 39- and 26-inch flat-screen TVs. Police said it appeared the bedroom had been gone through, and the woman would provide an inventory of missing items when she returned.

Melvindale
Package taken from apartment

A woman entered the police station about 5:45 p.m. Feb 25 to report that a package was taken from her apartment. The woman told police she was waiting on an online order to arrive and became suspicious when the package did not arrive on the estimated delivery date.

She checked the tracking information, police said, which documented the package was delivered Feb 21. The woman told police she made an inquiry at the Melvindale Post Office 17081 Allen Road, that also confirmed the package was delivered.

The package contained a tablet computer and a water purifier, she said, but no serial numbers were available at the time of the report. Police gave her a report number and are investigating.

Taylor
Phone stolen by customer

An employee at Citgo, 8308 Pelham, told police a man walked into the station about 4 p.m. Feb. 25, and walked out two minutes later with the employee’s cell phone.

According to police reports, the clerk’s iPhone 5 was on the counter when the man walked in. The store phone rang, and when the clerk turned his back to answer it the suspect grabbed the device and left the store.

After reviewing video surveillance images, police are looking for a black man with facial hair, who was wearing a black hat and coat at the time.

Trenton
Driver cited for OWI, suspended license

A faulty brake light ended with a motorist charged with operating while intoxicated and for driving with a suspended and revoked license.

About 11 a.m. March 1, police observed a blue Ford Ranger on West Jefferson near Grosse Ile Parkway. The vehicle’s driver side brake light was not operating.

The driver pulled into a nearby gas station, where police joined him. When asked for a license, the man provided a Michigan state identification card and admitted he had not had a license in several years. A check with the Law Enforcement Information Network and Secretary of State revealed the man’s license had been suspended, and had been revoked until a 2007-ordered reinstatement fee is paid for a previous drunken driving conviction. The man also was revealed to be on probation until 2015.

The man admitted he’d been drinking, and a breath test taken at the police station an hour later revealed a blood-alcohol content of .20, more than twice the legal limit of .08 for drunken driving in Michigan.

Wyandotte
Woman arrested for outstanding warrants

Police officers were called to the 1800 block of Vinewood about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 23 because the caller said a car was parked outside his house and the occupants were threatening to shoot him. When police arrived, they said the vehicle was parked across the street from the house and had a man and woman inside the vehicle.

The occupants were asked to get out of the car, searched and detained. Police said a check of the occupants’ information was run through the Law Enforcement Information Network and the Secretary of State databases. The woman had outstanding warrants and two of them were out of the Riverview Police Department, so police officers confirmed the warrants and handed the woman over to Riverview for processing.

The man told police the two were at the house to get money from an individual inside and was cleared and released at the scene. Officers attempted to speak with the caller, but a woman inside the house said the caller left after calling police.

Wallet left in shopping cart taken by another customer
Aldi staff called police to their location, 2931 Fort St., when a woman’s wallet was discovered missing from a shopping cart about 11 a.m. Feb 21. A witness said the woman walked into the store and picked out a cart before he did. The woman selected a cart with the wallet, the witness said, but she seemed nervous.

Police said the man followed her to see what she would do with the wallet and watched her put it in her jacket pocket. The man overheard the owner of the wallet talking with an employee about leaving the wallet and told them he saw a woman take the wallet.

When they approached the woman, police said she denied taking the purse and left the store. She entered a pickup truck in the parking lot, but the witness said he and the wallet’s owner continued to question her about the wallet. The driver of the pickup said he refused to drive away and told the woman to give the wallet back.

The driver said the woman took the wallet out of her pocket and threw it out of the window. The driver refused to leave until officers arrived, police said, and was later cleared of any participation in the incident.

Police said the woman did not comply with their commands to exit the vehicle and was yelling at the witness and the wallet owner. Officers eventually arrested the woman for disorderly conduct and the theft.
