SOUTHGATE — An August primary election may be necessary depending upon the number of candidates for the four expiring seats on the Southgate Community Schools Board of Education.
Petitions are available at the city clerk’s office, 14400 Dix Toledo, and must be submitted by July 22. If the number of candidates more than doubles the expiring seats a primary run-off will be held this summer.
The terms of Trustees Kirk Hayhurst, Sue Murray, Darlene Pomponio and Rebecca Reed-Hall expire on Dec. 30. Two are four-year terms; the others are six-year terms. The terms of Trustees Paul Knott, Amanda Kremer and Jason Craig — who was appointed in January to complete the term of Patricia Granziani after her resignation — expire in 2016.
The election of school board members will be the only local questions — barring any unexpected millage questions — facing Southgate voters in 2014. November balloting will include Congressional races as well as those for the Michigan Senate, House of Representatives and governor.
