DEARBORN — Green Brain Comics will celebrate the 13th annual Free Comic Book Day May 3 with the biggest and most diverse slate of free comics it ever has offered.
More than 50 different FCBD comics will be available that day. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., visitors to the store can choose up to five different comics for free. Like every year, there are comics for every different age, taste and reading level, Green Brain Comics co-owner Dan Merritt said.
Extra free comics will be given to visitors who donate a canned food item to Gleaners Community Food Bank, donate a used cell phone to Cell Phones for Soldiers, or show up in costume.
A portion of purchases made on FCBD will go to Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter (www.dearbornanimals.org) which will have volunteers and adoptable animals on site that day.
Several local comic creators will be exhibiting during the event, including special guest Jay Fosgitt, artist of the National Cartoonist Society nominated comic book “Bodie Troll.” Fosgitt has created a special “Green Brain Comics” custom cover for the FCBD Bodie Troll comic, available only during FCBD.
Add live disc jockey sets courtesy of Underground Resistance and live musical guests courtesy of Alter Ego Management, and “You’re looking at the most dynamic Free Comic Book Day celebration in the Detroit area,” Merritt said.
