SOUTHGATE — Police are investigating two crashes that claimed the life of an 86-year-old man Monday.
Wyandotte resident Lorenzo Fugate had first been involved in a crash at 10:40 a.m. when the Mercury he drove was reportedly hit by a semi truck. Fugate had been driving south on Fort Street and while in a turnaround was struck by the truck.
Fugate exited his vehicle to check the damage to the passenger side door. Two other motorists had stopped and also were standing near the Mercury when a southbound Ford Ranger veered into the lane and hit Fugate.
Fugate’s wife, who had been in the passenger seat, suffered minor injuries, as did the driver of the Ranger.
Fugate was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police investigation continued to determine if any charges would result from the incidents.
