DEARBORN — MemberFocus Community Credit Union has come up with a new way to give back to the community this year.
For the remainder of 2014, the credit union will donate $5 to a local charity or non-profit organization for every new membership it opens.
MemberFocus Marketing Director Evan Kingsbury said three organizations will be beneficiaries of the donations and that they will change every three months.
“We want to sponsor a group or organization within the community that has been making a positive impact through their work,” Kingsbury said.
He said MFCCU contributes to different events throughout the year but that the new program would bring the meaning of the credit union home to customers.
“This is another way for us to communicate to our membership what is important to us as a whole, because with every new account a local charity or organization will receive a donation that can be given right back to the community through their work,” Kingsbury said.
The first organization recognized is the Kiwanis Club of Dearborn Outer Drive, which will receive the donation money from accounts opened in April, May and June.
Kingsbury said MemberFocus was happy to select Kiwanis because of its local work.
“The Kiwanis do various projects throughout the year to better the Dearborn community in a number of ways,” Kingsbury said. “They have upcoming events, like Safety Town, and they really help a lot of people in the community.”
Kingsbury also said MemberFocus was able to raise $410 in donations for Kiwanis in April.
He added that the next recipient for July, August and September has not been finalized yet.
Organizations interesting in learning more can contact MFCCU at 313-581-2002 or go to either of the two branches at 6246 Chase or 1050 N. Telegraph Road.
