Oakwood Healthcare Inc. invited city officials and first responders to a National Disaster Medical System exercise in Dearborn last month, a training session held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The session tested the ability of the VA’s Veterans Integrated Service Network to move patients and address catastrophic disasters at the local level. The cities of Taylor and Trenton recently were named pilot communities for Oakwood’s Healthy Communities program to conduct health needs assessments and provide free medical screenings.
