About 80 dogs and cats, including Fiona (above) and Nico, will be at the Dearborn Animal Shelter Adopt-A-Thon from 10 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot in front of Home Depot, 3163 Fairlane Drive in Allen Park.
ALLEN PARK — The first of two Dearborn Animal Shelter summer Adopt-A-Thons will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot in front of Home Depot, 3163 Fairlane Drive. The DAS plans to have 80 animals available for adoption in all shapes and sizes, kittens, puppies, adult cats and dogs.
Counselors will be on hand to help potential adopters find a pet, including a meet-and-greet area to get to know dogs a little better in a separate section. Attendees can enjoy adoption specials, shop shelter merchandise, and treats for dogs.
A new addition this year, pet psychics will be onsite from noon to 2 p.m. They will help share insight with new adopters about ways in which the new pet family member can settle in to their home more easily.
Summer is a busy time for animal shelters, especially as kitten season moves into full swing, said Elaine Greene, executive director of Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter, so there will be many pets for families to consider.
“This Adopt-A-Thon is a great way for us to feature many adoptable pets in a high profile location,” Greene said. “We are essentially making the shelter mobile for a day, bringing pets to the public to find their new best friend.”
The second Adopt-A-Thon will take place in the parking lot of Westborn Mall at Michigan Avenue and Outer Drive in Dearborn on Aug. 16.
