DEARBORN – The public is invited to a free information session from 6 to 8 p.m. June 18 providing an update on the progress of the City Hall Artspace Lofts project.
The meeting will be in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 13615 Michigan Ave., and is hosted by Artspace, the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority and the city of Dearborn.
The project is being developed by Minneapolis-based nonprofit Artspace. Artspace is in the planning stages of creating a mixed-use arts campus that will transform the City Hall complex into a live/work space for artists and their families, complete with studio, performance and commercial areas.
City administration offices will be moved from City Hall to the new Dearborn Administrative Center, 16901 Michigan Ave.
Representatives from Artspace, the city and EDDDA will be present to answer questions, and drawings will be available to show new building designs. Refreshments will be served.
The session organizers hope the presentation will attract artists from the region interested in renting space in the City Hall Artspace Lofts.
Artspace is a leader in transforming artist-led communities across the country, with 35 similar projects in operation and another dozen in development in a number of cities throughout the United States.
Studies have shown that these projects have been able to drive economic returns to the communities in which they reside by refurbishing aging buildings, boosting property values, and attracting new businesses, organizations, and residents to the area.
