Cruisin’ Dearborn once again will kick off the annual Dearborn Homecoming festival Aug. 1 at Ford Field Park in Dearborn. The event will include food, fun and entertainment.
DEARBORN — Classic cars will once again cruise the streets of Dearborn to kick off the festivities at the 2014 Dearborn Homecoming festival at the Cruisin’ Dearborn Aug. 1.
The cruise, presented by Community Alliance Credit Union will begin at 7 p.m. at the Dearborn Police Department, 16099 Michigan Ave., and will run along Michigan through downtown west Dearborn, ending at Ford Field Park for a classic car show with food, fun and entertainment. The cars will be on dipslay until 10 p.m. at the park.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the city of Dearborn to host this wonderful community event,” Dearborn Area Chamber President Jackie Lovejoy said. “Cruisin’ Dearborn has truly become a summer favorite in the Dearborn area.”
As in past years, the event is limited to 150 classic cruisers, which will receive a certificate, a dash plaque sponsored by Village Ford, and cruiser gift bag, sponsored by Jack Demmer Automotive Group. The Burnin’ Rubber sponsor is Karcher Insurance Agency. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is also a sponsor for this year’s event.
The parade will again be led by Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr., Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko, and U.S. Rep. John Dingell and Debbie Dingell.
This year the chamber is adding a “pass-in-review” table to the cruise and car show. As cruisers enter Ford Field, each vehicle’s year, make and model will be announced.
“We are looking forward to making this year’s event even more memorable with the addition of the ‘pass-in-review’ table,” DACC Director of Events Ron Hinrichs said. “To prevent any vehicles from overheating, this will be a quick, yet exciting and unforgettable component of our event.”
A “Best in Show” award will be presented at this year’s event. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, the chamber also will recognize the “Best in Show Mustang.”
Registration for Cruisin’ Dearborn is $15 per vehicle, and can be completed online at www.dearbornareachamber.org or by calling 313-584-6100. The event is open to classic cars ranging in model years from 1933 to 1989.
