DEARBORN — Henry Ford College will host its first Discovery Day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Student & Culinary Arts Center on the main campus, 5101 Evergreen.
Discover Henry Ford College Day allows current and prospective students the opportunity to talk to program experts in one location on one day about more than 100 associate’s degree and certificate programs offered at HFC. Specifically, HFC designed this event to answer a number of questions students often ask, such as:
· What transfer opportunities are available?
· What are strong transfer institutions for specific programs?
· How long does it take to complete a program?
· How many full-time instructors teach in each program?
· Which prior learning credits may be used toward a degree?
· What articulation agreements are in place for high school classes?
This event allows prospective and current students, education partners and parents ample time to hear answers from experts in a relaxed environment without any time restraints. They will receive immediate access and in-depth information about programs, available positions within industry sectors, and ways to maximize their experience at HFC.
This event is not only valuable to first-year college students and incoming college students, but also high school students.
The venue will be arena style with program representatives in one area with information students need to choose an academic program that’s the right fit for them.
Discover Day offers students an opportunity to learn from those who teach in the program or work in a particular field what the program entails. The knowledge and insight of experts regarding career opportunities and career pathways will help students discover whether a specific program is a good match for their skills and interest.
A variety of workshops and short presentations also will be available. Some currently in the planning stages include:
· Women in Technology.
· Men in Health Careers.
· Financial Aid.
· The Seven Steps to Enrollment.
· Transfer Opportunities and Articulations.
· Honors Program.
· The Learning Lab at HFC.
HFC also will offer free food, giveaways, raffles and opportunities to win prizes.
