TAYLOR — Police took into custody two men believed responsible for up to five Downriver robberies including a bar holdup in Trenton during which shots were fired.
Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said two men were apprehended by patrol officers after an area-wide alert was issued by police in the wake of a July 11 incident at Cdogz Bar & Grille, 2441 Van Horn Road.
The suspects were seen leaving the bar after taking cell phones and money from several customers and firing a gunshot into the ceiling.
Trenton Detective Mike Oakley said no one was seriously injured during the holdup.
“There was just one shot fired,” Oakley said. “The actual shot didn’t hit anybody, but a bottle was broken and there was an injury from broken glass.”
A description of the suspects’ vehicle and methods matched several recent robberies, one earlier
this month at Dominick’s Market, 12970 Beech Daly Road, along with heists in Wyandotte, Allen Park and Van Buren Township. One of the men in the vehicle that was detained by Taylor police reportedly had a weapon.
Sclabassi said the suspects were turned over to Van Buren police while police and prosecutors reviewed the pending charges.
