DEARBORN — “12 on 12,” Dearborn’s Pop-Up Art Gallery featuring 12 professional artists in action on U.S. 12 opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday at a temporary location inside City Hall, 13615 Michigan Ave.
Next to the City Council Chambers, the gallery will be open, free to the public from 5 to 9 p.m. and on two additional Wednesdays – Aug. 6 and 13.
The days and times for “12 on 12” were chosen to coincide with the popular Jazz on the Ave concerts which take place Wednesday evenings at City Hall Park during July and August.
Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the artists, observe the creative process, purchase original artwork and vote for award winners including a People’s Choice Award.
Pop-up galleries have gained popularity across the country. Dearborn first hosted a pop-up in July 2013 in a downtown east Dearborn storefront location. The location for this year’s gallery was chosen to illustrate the future use of the space as part of the planned Artspace Lofts project in City Hall.
Artists participating in the 2014 gallery include returning artists Mohamad Bazzi, Daniel Cascardo and Lindsey Harnish. New this year are: sculptor Elroy Grandy; mixed media artists Elizabeth Boyd Hartmann, Sara Konieczny, Carol Theisen, and Wendy Sample; photographer Frank Purrington; letterpress printer Joel Grothaus; ceramicists from Henry Ford College; and representatives from Tech Shop.
“12 on 12” and Jazz on the Ave are projects of the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority with additional support provided by Oakwood Healthcare and the Dearborn Community Fund.
