Children take a ride on the Trackless Train as a part of Family Fun Day and Business Open House, an annual family fun event hosted by the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce to promote safe family fun.

HEIGHTS — As part of National Night Out, the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and Dearborn Heights Police Department have teamed up to offer local families an alternative to crime and drugs at Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 5.

Families have the opportunity to visit more than 30 participating chamber member businesses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and collect tickets that will be used to redeem prizes (while supplies last). The more businesses visited, the more tickets to win. Most businesses will host their own activities such as clowns, face painting, free drawings, in addition to special incentive offers including discounted food, dessert samples, drawings and games.

At the start of the day, each family will receive a map directing them to all participating businesses. The fun continues from 4 to 8 p.m. at Van Houten Splash Park on Silvery Lane in Dearborn Heights. Besides the prize tent there will also be bouncy inflatables for the children, sponsored by the Dearborn Heights Kiwanis Club and the Dearborn Heights Rotary Club; “Happy the Clown;” a Trackless Train, sponsored by Chief Financial Credit Union; and entertainment provided by Music Authority in Dearborn Heights. The chamber will sell concessions.

This year also will feature a family movie on the large screen at 7 p.m., which is sponsored by Kevin McNamara. PKSA Karate of Dearborn is providing two mountain bikes which will be given away at the event.

Each car load is $10 which includes lots of extras. Each family member will receive a free game of bowling and shoes at Cherry Hill Lanes, and a free game of miniature golf at Midway Golf. They will also receive a hot dog, chips, ice cream and water at Van Houten Park from 4 to 8 p.m.

Some restrictions apply.

Car passes are available at www.dearbornareachamber.org; call for more details at 313-584-6100.
