Keeping a community clean

Earlier this month a hearty volunteer crew from Evangel Baptist Church spent a day at the Taylor municipal complex and worked with Parks and Recreation officials to spruce up the grounds surrounding City Call, 23rd District Court and police and fire stations. About 50 people worked for several hours trimming trees and picking up trash, part of an ongoing effort to clean up the community that continued Saturday at the flower beds at Telegraph and Goddard roads. Community volunteer Karen DePriest was among the organizers whose efforts were recently joined by City Councilmen Charley Johnson and Alex Garza. An informal spruce-up-the-city campaign began earlier this year when Jim Taylor launched a Heritage Park cleanup in April that attracted nearly 300 volunteers. For information on future efforts or to learn how to get involved contact Communications Director Karl Ziomek at 734-374-1447.
