New ordinance officer to enforce

ALLEN PARK — There is an additional person enforcing ordinances in the city.

Recent part-time hire Matthew Lieb has been training for the past three weeks learning about city ordinance enforcement, City Administrator Karen Folks said during the City Council meeting Tuesday.

The city resident will focus on sign ordinance compliance, vacant property ordinances and other ordinance compliance.

At recent council meetings, residents have asked for more ordinance enforcement, complaining that businesses are posting signs without permits or have expired permits, sidewalks are not up to code, porches are crumbling and various other alleged violations.

“There’s been a gap in our enforcement services that centers around zoning violations,” Folks said.

One of the items Lieb may soon address are the 141 houses in the city that have no running water, said Mayor William Matakas, who added the additional officer is needed.

“I’m happy to have this opportunity,” Lieb said Tuesday.
