TAYLOR — What may have started as a confrontation at a gas station with drug dealers turned into an assault that left a 28-year-old Lincoln Park man in critical condition and two men facing lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
Taylor brothers Anthony Clark, 23, and DeAngelo Clark, 22, were charged Thursday before 23rd District Court Judge William Sutherland with three felony counts each including assault with intent to commit murder.
Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said the two men were taken into custody Thursday, soon after an alleged encounter about 2:50 a.m. near the BP gas station at Telegraph and Wick.
Police had been called to the scene for reports of a fight. Sclabassi said the Lincoln Park man had confronted the two men who had been discussing drug sales.
“Witnesses said the two men were talking about distributing narcotics,” Sclabassi said. “The Lincoln Park man allegedly told them, ‘We don’t do that around here.’”
Investigators said the men assaulted the Lincoln Park man and left the station before police arrived. Sclabassi said the suspects were identified and in custody later that day.
The Lincoln Park man had been kicked repeatedly in the head and was found by police lying on the floor. He was transported to the hospital where he remained in critical condition.
In addition to assault with intent to commit murder – a felony punishable by up to life in prison – the two were charged with assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder and aggravated assault.
They remained in custody on cash bonds of $500,000 each, and the charges are scheduled for a preliminary examination of the evidence against them at 1 p.m. Sept. 29.
