Having twice succeeded in rehabilitating houses for veterans and their families, the city of Taylor and Home Depot Foundation announced last month a $24,000 grant to the Taylor Veterans Home Program for work to continue. Renovations will soon begin to transform the old Sell house on Northline Road into the new headquarters of Enchanted Makeovers, a city-based nonprofit organization. Mayor Rick Sollars — 10th from left during a check presentation event earlier this month — said Home Depot’s Rodney Harris and Tom Gibbons were the driving force behind the charity, which coordinated efforts by several donors to award homes and a hand-up to veterans in need. Enchanted Makeovers works to turn long-term homeless shelters into support centers to inspire behavioral and psychological change.
