TAYLOR — Gunfire that ended two lives Monday has been determined to be the result of a murder-suicide.
Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said it remains unknown what prompted the shootings, but autopsies indicated that a woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds before a man turned the weapon on himself.
“It is still unknown what led to the shootings,” Sclabassi said. “Investigators will continue to determine the motives.”
Police were called to the home of Renee Lutton, 48, and her boyfriend, James Walker, 59, by Lutton’s son about 8:30 p.m. Monday. The man told police he’d been unable to contact his mother and went to the house in the 26800 block of Beverly near the intersection of Inkster and Van Born. He found the two deceased inside and called police.
It was undetermined when the shootings had taken place. Sclabassi said the deaths were originally determined suspicious but unknown if there had been a third party in the house. Reportedly a neighbor had heard the couple arguing one morning a few days before the shootings.
Autopsies conducted at the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office Tuesday morning determined that Lutton had sustained “numerous gunshot wounds” and that Walker had died from a single shot fired at close range.
