Nearly a dozen student volunteers from Lincoln Park High School spent Saturday morning sprucing up Marion Park. The project was initiated by city hall intern Giles Tucker, a Wayne State University graduate student who had toured the parks and invited LPHS JROTC director Sgt. Stephen Fluharty to spearhead a volunteer crew. Tucker said community donations included RJ&J Excavating, EJ&J Tree TRimming and Painter’s Supply, which contributed the needed materials and equipment. Work began early, and by noon the group had painted over graffiti, prepared the grounds for mulch and completed other projects to leave the park a better place to visit.
