Mayor Rick Sollars made it official Wednesday when he cut the ribbon to re-open the Taylor Recreation Center as a full-time facility. Sollars was joined at last week’s open house by city council members, elected officials, fitness experts and — clearly the tallest attendee — former Detroit Pistons “Bad Boy” James “Buddha” Edwards, a longtime friend of the center. The facility, at 22805 Goddard, had been closed during recent periods of strained city budgets — “when hard decisions had to be made,” Sollars said — and it was hoped that a membership drive and resident support will keep the programs going beyond 2015.
