DEARBORN — An ATM, bolted into the wall was stolen from the Michigan Secretary of State office at 5094 Schaefer in a smash-and-grab the night of Oct. 19.
The office was closed the next day due to the damages and cleanup process. The theft left the building severely damaged, with the large window near the back entrance broken.
Police the next day, reportedly said they believe they found the vehicle — a red van — used to smash into the building. Police said the van had been set on fire.
Witnesses said that just before midnight Oct. 19, they heard a loud noise and saw a that van had crashed through the back window.
Police also are searching for a second vehicle — possibly a silver Range Rover — involved in the theft.
Along with the damage to the building in the smash-and-grab, the ATM that was stolen is still missing.
The crime is believed to have been planned inadvance. Police have no suspects as of press time.
