LINCOLN PARK — An early morning collision on Champaign Road took the life of a 30-year-old Allen Park woman Sunday.
According to Lincoln Park police, an investigation continues into the two-car accident that took place near Porter Avenue about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
Responding officers first encountered a 1997 Ford Taurus with three people pinned inside: The driver, a 25-year-old Lincoln Park man; his cousin, a 31-year-old Detroit man who was in the back seat; and in the front passenger seat a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 31-year-old passenger was transported by University of Michigan Life Flight to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit after being “severely injured” in the crash, according to police reports.
The second vehicle involved in the crash, a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was unoccupied when police arrived. Witnesses directed officers to a 32-year-old Lincoln Park woman who was found in a nearby gas station, who was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, and later transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
According to a police spokesperson, the ongoing investigation includes a pending report from the Downriver Crash Team reconstruction specialists as well as drug and alcohol tests for both drivers.
