In honor of His Honor

A crowded courthouse Monday brought members of the legal and civic communities together to honor retiring 23rd District Court Judge William Sutherland (this from left), who will step down from the bench at year’s end after nearly 50 years of service to the court and community. Joining Sutherland were 23rd District Court Judges Geno Salomone (left) and Anthony Nicita, and Judge-elect Joseph Slaven, who will succeed Sutherland on the bench. Retired but never forgotten, Sutherland’s service to Taylor will remain a part of the community at the “Nicita and Sutherland Courthouse,” as the 23rd District Court building was named. Sutherland’s lengthy judicial career was matched by contributions to the city that included service on the charter commission that transformed Taylor Township into a city in the 1960s.
