SOUTHGATE — Police are investigating an interrupted home invasion this morning that ended with a suspected would-be burglar shot and killed by a homeowner.

Public Safety Director Thomas Coombs said police were called about 5 a.m. today by a man in the 15000 block of Flanders, near Allen and North Line roads.

“It was a home invasion,” Coombs said. “The defendant who had broken into the home was armed. The homeowner armed himself and shot and killed the defendant.”

Coombs said the investigation was ongoing, and that the homeowner had been interviewed by police.

No information on the intruder has been released.
